As the New Year rolls around again, everyone is thinking of what they are going to change about their lives. It seems customary that we each come up with one or more New Year's resolutions to see us through the next twelve months, and yet, how often do these resolutions last? Perhaps a more interesting question is why you feel compelled to make a New Year's resolution in the first place. Do you do it out of habit? Do you do it because everyone around you is doing it? Or do you do it because you genuinely want to change a specific area of your life and have been waiting for New Year's to make the change because this time of year represents a fresh start?
Whatever your reasons, it is far easier to make a change in your life if you have your intention set straight regarding what you wish to change. It may not even be a change you are looking for but something new you wish to bring into your life in order to feel more fulfilled. Here are a few things you can do to give yourself the best chance of reaching your New Year's goal.
- Get clear in your mind what you want, and focus on that. Focusing on what you do NOT want is counterproductive as it puts out to the Universe more of what you don't want.
- Gather resources to help you visualize what it is you are aiming for. These may be in the form of cutting out images from magazines that represent what it is you want. Put these images around your home so you are constantly reminded of what your goal is.
- Imagine that you have already attained your goal. What would it look like? How would it feel? What would you be saying to yourself, aloud or within your own mind?
- Be grateful for what you have accomplished so far – part of realizing goals is recognizing the progress you've already made.
This year we are especially lucky. Just as 2014 begins, so does a new moon cycle. At 6:14am Eastern Time on January 1, 2014 the moon will begin a new cycle. This is a very lucky omen and I would urge you to try to make your New Year's resolutions at this time or just after this time. During the few hours before this, the moon will be in its "dark period," which is a great time for getting rid of things from your life but not good for bringing them in. A new moon will bring things into your life and help you to attain your goals more easily. This new moon is at 11 degrees Capricorn and not only is it conjunct (sitting on top of) the sun, it is also conjunct Pluto. Nothing could be better for change, transformation and making things happen. So what are you waiting for – set those intentions, and see those New Year's wishes turn to reality!
