There is a powerful life force within us that flows from seven wheels of energy, known as the chakra. These seven energy centers spin to keep our life force flowing, each affecting different parts of our bodies, minds and spirits. When the chakras are balanced and spinning in harmony, we feel at our best. However, it is not uncommon for our chakras to spin too fast or too slow, making us feel physically and emotionally unwell.
We can restore balance to our chakras and improve our well-being if we get to know what each energy center affects and how it can be revved up or calmed down. Today, we’re looking at the fourth chakra, the Heart Chakra.
In Sanskrit, the Heart Chakra is known as Anahata, which translates to ‘unhurt’. This chakra is your safe place full of love, kindness and compassion. Located just over your heart, stretching from your breastbone to your throat, it influences your ability to love, feel joy and experience inner peace.
IS YOUR HEART CHAKRA BALANCED?
When your Heart Chakra is in balance, you’ll feel full of love. It will be easy to show compassion, forgiveness and love to yourself and others. Yet, if the Heart Chakra is out of balance, anger, jealousy and fear are more common emotions.
A blocked Heart Chakra inhibits the ability to empathize and trust others. If it is underactive, you may be guarded and find it hard to connect with others and develop close relationships. An overactive fourth chakra can lead you to make unhealthy relationship decisions and blur personal boundaries.
HOW TO BALANCE YOUR HEART CHAKRA
Show yourself kindness and compassion. Since the Heart Chakra is all about love, it’s essential to turn that love inward in order to rebalance. Try pushing out negative thoughts about yourself and practice more self-care.
Spend time in nature. Green is the color of the Heart Chakra so spending time among trees, plants and flowers can have a healing effect. Take a walk in a forest, meadow or park and enjoy what Mother Nature has to offer.
Meditate. Visualize your Heart Chakra filling up with a warm, green healing light. You can also try chanting ‘YAM’, the mantra for this chakra.
Use crystals. Meditating with or carrying crystals is said to balance the chakras. To heal the Heart Chakra, choose green crystals like jade, emerald or malachite.
